September Conference 2014

National Paediatric Palliative Care Conference Sept 2014 

A National Conference for Professionals Caring for Children and Young People with life limiting conditions will be held on 26th September 2014, at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Keynote speakers are Dr Lynda Brook, Macmillan Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Care, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and Dr Lisa Kaufmann, Consultant Paediatrician and Clinical Director for Community Children’s Services, Central Manchester University Hospitals Community Children’s NHS Trust.

Topics will include; Managing ongoing and end of life symptoms, the language of palliative care, the cost of caring, parallel and advanced care planning, rapid discharge, organ donation, how belief systems impact on care and complementary therapies.

WMPPCN Annual Study Day is on 9th July 2013

Our annual paediatric palliative care study day will be held at the Donna Louise Hospice, Trentham, Stoke on Trent. Topics include an Update on WMPPCN and the DH Palliative Care Funding Review Pilot, Advanced Care Planning, Step-down Hospice Care, and Befriending Services.

The App

We are very pleased to inform you all that the free West Midlands Paediatic Palliative Care Network app has been approved by ITunes and is now live on the App Store. This was a funded project from NHS West/East Midlands to Dr Angela Thompson and Dr Fiona Reynolds who contracted Professor Jane Coad & Collette Clay from the Centre for Children and Families Applied Research (CCFAR) and Serious Games Institute (SGI) at Coventry University to develop the App in partnership.

It is a replicated copy of the paper version of the ‘Purple pages’ or West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Toolkit and is of use for professionals working in palliative care with families and children. It includes up to date information and we hope that you find this accessible format useful in your work.
